Your security is our priority. We want every user to feel protected inside our platform. However, there are cases where scammers appear as either sellers or buyers, even as Car.gr!
ATTENTION!
- Car.gr never sends any monetary amount to users of the website.
- Car.gr never sends any link for "Account Verification" or other "Payment Services".
- Car.gr is not a money mediator for product sales.
Car.gr will NEVER ask you for:
- EMAIL & email codes
- IBAN account
- PIN through Viber or SMS
- Login codes for Car.gr & bank
Fake buyers usually:
Continue communication outside Car.gr (e.g. email or chat platforms) and propose payment through "link" or "courier".
Fake emails with friendly tone and stories that persuade you to give card or bank details.
Fake link or QR code that is supposed to come from Car.gr for "money withdrawal" or "account verification".
Fake SMS with suspicious links that seem official but lead to fake pages outside Car.gr.
Fake sellers usually:
Continue communication outside Car.gr (e.g. email or chat platforms).
Claim to help a friend to sell something.
Fake emails with official logos and tone that are intended to steal your personal information.
Offer a link or QR code for you to visit and perform the action that they want.
Rely on the logic of the imminent and that you need to act quickly.
Techniques used by scammers
Urgent messages:
"Your account has been breached", "There was suspicious activity", "You need to respond now". The goal is to panic you and click on phishing links (links that steal your information).
Suspicious accounts & telephone number
Sometimes they communicate with weird profiles or have telephone numbers from countries outside Greece. These are signs of a fake profile.
Requests for access codes
Scammers may request your codes. Their goal is to use your account. The codes are always personal and you should never share them with anyone, even if they appear friendly and willing to help you.
Suspicious classified or profile signs
Pressured to act quickly.
The value is too low in relation to the purchase.
Request communication only outside Car.gr (Viber, WhatsApp, Email).
Use suspicious telephone numbers or from abroad.
There are no all communication elements or they appear fake.

General security advice
First contact the person concerned by phone and ask to meet face to face in a public and safe place.
Go to the appointment with a friendly or family member for security.
Check that you are on Car.gr and not on a fake website. The URL should always start with https://www.car.gr.
Prefer payment in cash when meeting in person.
If you are paying online, make sure you are on the secure environment of your bank and not on a fake website.
Never share PIN or SMS codes with anyone, even if they appear friendly and willing to help you.

If you fall victim of a scam

Contact your bank immediately to block the account.

Notify the authorities (cyberalert reports).

Keep proof (conversations, emails, payment proofs) which will help you prove the legitimacy of your claim.

Report the incident to the Car.gr team.
